We’re Back!

Friday, February 22nd, 2013

After a year of being stuck in website purgatory, this site is finally back up and running. (Here’s a tip: never trust anyone with your website, hosting, or server except the person you pay to handle those things.) Bear with us as we get things moving again. I can’t guarantee everything is going to be smooth at first and unfortunately some of the older content from before is lost forever, but we’re working on it. Also, the Busted Mouth Podcast is coming back! Stay tuned, the three people who have visited this website.

Things I Know – The Return

Tuesday, November 15th, 2011

I miss writing this column. I hope to visit it much more frequently in the future. Also, the new audio album will be done in the next two weeks. Just sayin. Alright, here’s the nasty.

  1. Drunken sex is like sleeping with the flattering, default Facebook photo of somebody. The next morning is like looking at the others.
  2. Cock-blocking attempts, like an overattentive father, often drive people to be naked together.
  3. There is a special place in hell for those whose teeth scrape against the fork while eating.
  4. If you ever get obliterated drunk and wake up startled by the absence of a hangover, don’t worry. You’re just still drunk. It’s coming.
  5. Should you ever start marveling at how far we’ve advanced as a society or collective conscious, read the comments on any YouTube video…Yep…we’re still pretty much shitting in our mitts and hucking it at each other.
  6. The phrasing of “kiddie porn” makes it sound inappropriately festive.
  7. After years of tireless testing, it has been confirmed that phones do indeed go both ways. Therefore, you can chill on the “so and so nevers calls” bullshit
  8. BREAKING: Despite what I had been led to believe, it turns out the above results hold true regardless of gender. Phew, here I was thinking women could only RECEIVE calls.
  9. “To serve and protect” was instituted after the previous, albeit truthful, slogan of “To intimidate and overreact” was thought to be too racy.

Hey Everybody. Forgot to mention that the same deal from week 3 applies to week 4. New track coming for this week, though.

3/26 – Beyond The Facade

Friday, September 23rd, 2011

New Story. It’s actually not dogshit. I can’t upload it here because a) it’s too big, file-wise and b) it’s been given to a certain radio show for broadcast. I will upload/link it here after it has hit the airwaves or they tell me that it’s safe to distribute. In the meantime, followers of the 26 Project (both of you) can email me via the contact box and I’ll drop you an MP3 copy.

The 26 Project continues.  The hardest part of doing a challenge like this is coming to grips with the fact that some weeks you’ll turn out gold and some weeks you’ll crank out sewage. I’m not sure how I feel about this one except that I eff’d up while recording it and had to stitch together a bunch of B-reel for the vocal. Then again, that’s what this little thing is all about.

26 – 2 – Call Me Sometime

#1 of 26

Wednesday, September 7th, 2011

Some of you might recall me talking about the “26 Project”  – a commitment to write, record, and release a new audio track (song, poem, essay) once a week. Well, here’s where it starts. I’ll be posting a new track every Wednesday for 6 months (or at least until I sputter and quit.) Listen, download, do what you do. This could get interesting. No guarantees.

Episode 12: Mike O’Connell Interview

Saturday, July 16th, 2011

This episode contains an interview with comedian/poet/musician Mike O’Connell -  talking about comedy, publishing and general jackassery.

Summer Update!

Tuesday, June 28th, 2011

Dear My Two Fans/Supporters,

Hey there, both of you. I realize that I’ve been flying under the radar a bit these last couple months and I wanted to drop a line to let you know what I’m up to:

Real Talk Live: As you know by now I’m a resident artist with Real Talk Ave. Well, we’ve been an official unit for a little over a year now and in July we’ll be celebrating the 1st Anniversary of our curated show, Real Talk Live. It will be awesome. Check the gigs calendar for more info. Also, CBS rated us as one of Chicago’s best literary shows. Here, I’ll prove it: http://chicago.cbslocal.com/top-lists/best-chicago-literary-readings/ Boom, son.

New Stage Act: So, I’ve recently figured out how to do all the things I do (poetry, comedy, music, storytelling, etc) at the same time. Well, at least in the same set. It involves some instruments, a loop pedal, and A LOT of rehearsal. It’s part recitation, part singing, part guitar, and part dick joke. It is however, all fuggin rock.  I have a feeling this will be the shit I end up doing for like, ever. There are some clips in the Media section under Video. Which leads me to..

Touring: I miss the road, folks. I’m not saying that I’m looking to spend a couple years living out of my car again, but I am feeling the familiar wanderlust of yesteryear. And with this new stage act popping off, I figure now’s a good time. There’s a chance I’ll be heading to Germany to do a block of shows in October with the Speak’Easy Ensemble, but outside of that, I’m open. Wanna have me in your town? Holler at  me. Go to a college/university? Definitely holler at me.

The 26 Project: So this is going to be one of those things that bites me in the ass. I plan on starting at the half-year point in order to write, produce, record, and release a new poem, song, story or essay EVERY WEEK until the ball drops. There are 26 weeks to the half-year, hence the name. Where they’ll be released, I’m not sure yet. Will I make it? Who knows. Stay tuned.

As if that weren’t enough, I’m also shooting for an October 1st release date on my new (yet untitled) album. It will be mostly poetry but with some music/buffoonery thrown in. Oh, and I’m still teaching workshops. So, what are you doing this summer?
